Positive actions shared during International Compost Awareness Week
International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) is marked nationwide each year in May and presents an important opportunity to raise awareness and celebrate all things compost!
This year we partnered with the Victorian Waste Management Association to host a site tour of organisations managing organic waste and encouraged councils to remind residents to keep their green bin free from contamination.
The tour, on 9 May showcased businesses and operators working to better manage organic waste. Sites included the South Melbourne Market, Cleanaway (Dandenong), the MCG and Melbourne Zoo.
Back to Earth Initiative social media tiles were shared with councils to remind residents to keep rubbish out of the green waste bin to minimise contamination and help green waste processors produce high quality compost. The tiles were developed following feedback from processors about increasing levels of contamination in green waste collections.
The tiles are not specific to International Compost Awareness Week, and we strongly encourage councils to continue using them on their social media channels.
