MWRRG participates in Business Clean Up Day 2018
MWRRG was proud to participate in Business Clean Up Day 2018. Our staff teamed up with Sustainability Victoria, Victorian Litter Action Alliance, Keep Victoria Beautiful and Port Phillip EcoCentre to pick up litter from the banks of the Yarra, near the Webb Bridge in Docklands.
The volume of rubbish collected was lower than previous years because Melbourne City Council had recently cleared the area of bigger items. We found a lot of small pieces of single use plastic - including straws, plastic bottle caps, lollypop sticks, soy sauce fish bottles and balloons, as well as numerous cigarette butts.
The type and amount of litter we collected really highlighted the need for the community to dispose of litter thoughtfully and reduce plastic consumption in order to prevent waste from entering our environment.
While the official Clean Up Business Day 2018 has now passed, you can still do your clean up on any day of the year that suits you. We really encourage everybody to get on board with a Business Clean Up Day, or take part in one of the many community events on Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 4 March.
