Councils among winners at Victorian organics industry awards

Congratulations to Bass Coast Shire Council for winning the local government category in the Australian Organics Recycling Association (AORA) Victoria Awards on 4 September.

MWRRG’s The Back to Earth Initiative was proud to sponsor the award, which recognises leading practice in food and green waste recycling in local government.

The Back to Earth Initiative encourages residents to use their council food and/or green waste collection service correctly.

Bass Coast Council has led the way in Victoria following their early adoption of food waste recycling. Their proven record of diversion from landfill has encouraged other councils to follow their lead.

We’d also like to congratulate the other winners on the night:

  • Outstanding contribution to industry development award - Declan McDonald, SESL Australia
  • Compost user demonstrating innovation and advocacy in agricultural markets award - Simon Falkiner
  • Compost user demonstrating innovation and advocacy in amenity market award - Hume City Council.

AORA - with 49 members in Victoria - works with councils, industry and government to ensure food and green waste can be sustainably and cost-effectively recycled. It promotes the benefits of compost, soil conditioners and mulches.

The AORA Victoria Awards celebrate the outstanding efforts in the organics recycling industry and help to raise awareness, participation and overall capacity of the industry.
